Beschreibung
We seems to have a flow of these pretty coupes, designed by John Blatchley, when in reality they are really rare motors
This the first series, were produced from 1966 until 1970 when the factory re-named them the Corniche
Only 79 were produced in that period, in RHD, and this is the only we have had in the last 10 years, so unusual are they to source - in superb condition
Laid down by the factory here in London in 1967, and supplied to dealers Mead of Burnham whose customer, Donald McKenzie Esq took delivery in May 1968
Production normally took about a year for each car, for they were wholly hand build next to the Phantom limousines
Finished still her original factory specification, save for black wall tyres rather than the original whitewall tyres specified & the front fog lamps
The original radio and stereo tape player & electric aerial with 4 speakers are all there, and in working condition (well the tape player does need a bit of time to warm up........but in the end fine music emanates from all 4 speakers) plus the door mirror, plain sundym glass all round, front seat safety harness and yes, and most importantly the air conditioning unit
Messrs John H Chignall & Co Ltd became the second owners in March 1970, when 19.000 miles had been covered
Thereafter the V5C shows only 2 previous owners, which by my calculations means that we have 5 owners in all
The history folder covers maintenance for the last 32 years, most of which is by the owner from 1988 until 2015
Thereafter she was purchased by JD Classic of Essex, whose works shops were well renowned for the quality of their technicians
Under their auspices she was stripped to bare metal and repainted in ICI Black Cherry with all bright work being completely rechromed as well
Her original interior is untainted and is in amazing condition for her age - black hides with red piping and red carpets
JD Classic's sold her in 2018 to her last owner, who undertook a mechanical check over to ensure all items were working correctly
and after nearly £20.000 had been spent, all was well
The air conditioning was serviced and very cold air emits from the fascia outlets, the accumulators, brake pumps and all braking systems have been refurbished as has been the suspension hydraulics - all works completed by Rolls-Royce & Bentley Specialists Association member
He used her for a trip to the Le Mans Classic thereafter, and as you would expect she enjoyed the trip, 4 up and without missing a beat (he also fitted rear seat belts for his passengers)
The example with the purity of line of the early versions, just as Blatchley had intended, is hard to find
An early version should be as valuable a later Corniche II, and yet they aren't - perhaps they should be, or will be, in the future
She must be one of the best you could wish to come across, whether an early or later example and we highly recommend her
