W.O. Bentley‘s automotive efforts were directed from the outset toward sporting motor cars. Success came quite quickly with the initial four-cylinder, 3.0-litre engines, which boasted four valves per cylinder and, a little later, twin spark ignition - both relatively advanced features in their time. As before the First World War, success followed at various racing events around the world: a team prize at the Tourist Trophy race on the Isle of Man and a victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The company was purchased by Woolf Barnato, of "Bentley Boys" fame. The Bentley Boys were the great Bentley drivers of the period with the princip
