Benjamin enjoyed many competitive successes from 1922 on, notably winning the first 5 places in its category in the formidable Bol d'Or event. This sporty image obviously served as an advertisement for the brand which developed, for its customers who had a passion for racing, the Type C "Sport" version, fitted with a light 2-seater body, with aluminum hood and front axle friction dampers. The mechanicals were a 4-cylinder 750cc Gérard et Lemaître.
It was with this model that the famous sportswoman Violette Morris won the “Circuit des routes pavées” in 1922. The car on offer is an authentic "sport" version with its period body, identical to the racing cars that can be identified on many period photos. It was found by an astute collector from Mayenne while it was stored in a wine cellar in Loire-Atlantique. It was from this collector that the current owner acquired it about fifteen years ago. A demanding enthusiast, he gave the mechanicals to the well-known workshop RMA for a complete overhaul. The gearbox, axle shafts, brakes, undercarriage pivots and bushings, as well as the fuel tank, were all restored at this occasion. The formerly restored bodywork now has a beautiful patina, giving the car a lot of charm, enhanced with beautiful accessories such as the essential Castrol oil can or the small leather bag on the front fender. This extremely rare cyclecar, ready to hit the road, comes with an engine for parts. It’s delicious touch of authenticity is sure to appeal to real connoisseurs
The auction of this lot will take place on Friday 18 March 2022.
