A French brand of sports and luxury automobiles that reached its peak in the 1920s, the activity of the Ballot establishments began with the manufacture of marine engines. From 1911, the Ballot company started to produce engines without valves and after the 1st World War Ballot became famous in many races, notably the Indianapolis 500 Miles. In 1921, the brand asserted itself during important competitions and its name was now known to the general public. It was the only French firm to take part in the ACF Grand Prix, held in Le Mans in July 1921. Sports car enthusiasts, while appreciating the undeniable qualities of the 2 LS, were reluctant to buy it because of its high price. To attract this clientele, Ballot launched the 2 LTS model on the market at the 1924 Motor Show, based on the LT chassis but with brighter performance thanks to a different cylinder head. Around 500 chassis were sold between 1925 and 1929. Ballot was then bought by Hispano-Suiza.
This elegant and classic Sedan Ballot 2-litre Touring is in good general condition. It is a sedan with a soft body type "Weyman" and very nicely designed. The interior was redone a few years ago, respecting the style of the time. The original engine is complete but needs to be restarted. This car is described in the recent and impressive 2 volume book on the exclusive brand written by Daniel Cabart and Gautam Sen that we recommend. With a high mechanical quality, a powerful and technical engine with its overhead camshaft and efficient braking, the manufacturing is of excellent quality. The car is complete with its specific dashboard and its honeycomb radiator typical of the Ballots of this period. These cars are very rarely offered for sale and it is advisable to take advantage of this opportunity to put an extremely rare example back on the road.
