"The A90 Atlantic was Austin’s post-war attempt at an upscale model for America. Derived from the A70 Austin Hampshire, it had a 2,660cc version of the OHV four-cylinder engine fed with twin SU carburettors. Transmission was a column-shifted four-speed. Initially a drophead coupé, it was joined by a fixedhead sports saloon in January 1950. The Atlantic featured up to the minute detailing and the then unheard-of luxury of hydraulically powered windows. As its final party trick, the centre section of the three piece, wrap around, rear window, could be lowered into the boot, for added ventilation by a remote winder above the front windscreen.
This Austin A90 Atlantic has been part of a significant collection for many years, it was purchased by the late vendor over four decades ago and has more recently been laid up. Restored in the early 1980s, this Austin was subsequently featured in the December 1984 issue of Classic and Sports Car magazine. This A90 once again featured in Classic and Sports Car magazine in 1989 where it was thoroughly road tested and received much praise in comparison to the similarly styled Sunbeam Talbot. Currently the car is not running however we believe with little work it could be back on the road very soon. This Austin represents a fantastic project for any new owner, it could simply be recommissioned and used or restored to a much higher standard. Included in the history file are many previous MoT test certificates, the old style buff logbook, many invoices for previous maintenance work and the V5 registration document.
