Beschreibung

Introduced in May 1961, the MKII version of Austin Healey’s Sprite sported a more conventional look courtesy of its full width grille and wing mounted headlamps. Other niceties included a rear bumper and opening boot lid. More civilised and slightly heavier than its ‘Frogeye” predecessor, the MKII boasted more power and torque courtesy of the improved carburation and a close ratio gearbox. Capable of a claimed 85mph, the lightweight two-seater was a fun sports car at an affordable price.

The Austin Healey Sprite offered here at Autostorico is finished in Dark Green metallic with Stone interior piped in Green. Supplied by Long Lane Garage Blackheath Ltd to its first owner, John Hemmings on 3rd March 1966. The car passed through several owners before being purchased by its current owner who undertook a no expense spared restoration. Work began with the engine and gearbox being removed and stripping the whole body before fitting replacement front and rear wings, floor pans, inner and outer sills before a full respray. The car was also subject to a full mechanical overhaul with a full engine rebuild to 1300cc (reground crankshaft, rebored block, new timing chain, pistons, bearings, valves etc.) gearbox and rear differential rebuild, suspension and braking system overhaul. Other notable works included; new wheels and hubs, exhaust system, full rewire, rebuilt carburettors, interior trim and new exterior brightwork.

Supplied with an extensive history file including current V5 registration documents, original order form, Austin Sprite factory brochure, driver’s handbook, Service passport and other related history.
