Beschreibung

The Austin Healey Sprite was announced to the press in Monte Carlo on 20th May 1958, just before the Monaco Grand Prix. It was intended to be a low-cost sportier successor to the pre-war Austin Seven. The little Sprite quickly became affectionately known as the ‘Frog Eye’ in the UK and the ‘Bug Eye’ in the US as its headlights were prominently mounted on top of the bonnet, inboard of the front wings. There were no exterior door handles, the driver and passenger were required to reach inside to open the doors. There was also no boot lid and access to the spare wheel and luggage compartment was achieved by tilting the seat backs forward and reaching under the rear deck.

The Austin Healey Sprite offered here at Autostorico was supplied in May 1960 to its first owner by Murray and Charlton of Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. Finished in Cherry Red with Black interior this lovely example passed to its current owner in 2013. During his ownership the car has been extremely well maintained with recent works including; Engine rebuild, Brake overhaul and new carpets fitted. This very original car still retains its all-important Steel bonnet and period instruments. Other features include; Luggage rack, Tonneau cover, Side screens, Factory hard top, Convertible hood, Period radio and additional electric cooling fan.

Supplied with an extensive history file including a current V5 registration document, previous MOT’s and a heritage certificate.
