A British Roadster of the Highest Order – The 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II BN7

The Austin-Healey 3000 ranks among the great icons of British sports car engineering. Born from the collaboration between Donald Healey and the British Motor Corporation, the so-called "Big Healey" became one of the most successful open sports cars of the late 1950s and early 1960s. With its long bonnet, short overhangs and powerful inline six-cylinder engine, it embodied the unique combination of performance, elegance and driving enjoyment that made British roadsters famous throughout the world. Thanks in no small part to its many successes in international rallies and endurance races, the Austin-Healey 3000 established itself as a formidable force in historic motorsport and remains one of the most sought-after classics of its era.

Introduced in 1961, the 3000 Mark II BN7 is widely regarded by enthusiasts as one of the most desirable and rarest variants of the entire model range. While later versions were produced predominantly in 2+2 configuration, the BN7 remained faithful to the purist two-seater concept, delivering a particularly direct and sporting driving experience. Even more significant is the short-lived Tri-Carb specification with three SU HS4 carburettors, which endowed the 2.9-litre inline six-cylinder engine with sharper throttle response and especially lively performance. In total, only 355 examples were built combining the BN7 body style with the triple-carburettor engine, making it one of the rarest, most sought-after and most collectible Austin-Healey 3000 variants ever produced.

The example offered here was originally finished in the elegant colour Ivory White and exported new to the United States. In 1994, the Healey found its way to Switzerland, where it underwent a comprehensive frame-off restoration prior to 2001. During this meticulous restoration, the car was completely dismantled and rebuilt to a very high standard. At that time, it received its current, sporting two-tone finish in red and black, while retaining its original wire wheels and factory-supplied overdrive, as confirmed by the British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate. This successful combination of authentic mechanical specification and tasteful presentation perfectly highlights the unique character of this rare roadster.

Over the past twenty-five years, the Healey has continued to benefit from careful maintenance and thoughtful mechanical improvements. Significant investments include a new clutch, a fully resealed engine, the installation of a lightweight aluminium flywheel, a high-torque starter motor, and new fuel and water pumps. These upgrades not only enhance reliability but also improve throttle response and overall drivability. The sale also includes a removable luggage rack, the original bumpers, and an extensive file of invoices and documentation relating to the restoration and subsequent maintenance. A Swiss Veteran Vehicle inspection completed in January 2026 confirms the Healey's outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition.
