An accompanying letter dated 27th September 2000 from Aston Martin Works Service Manager Keith Riddington describes the history of this particular car as, ‘a little confusing but also very interesting. The car is known as a V8 Volante and was built to South African specification. This specification, at that time, had the ‘S’ engine, which also turned out to be the Vantage specification. This came about when a South African dealer and customers alike felt the car was not powerful enough. Therefore the engine was up-rated, unofficially making the engine a Vantage specification,
