Aston Martin V8 Volante 1978 LHD Manual 5-speed

Recent years have confirmed the undeniable classic status of the Aston Martin V8, a newly styled (Aston Martin designer William Towns admitted having been inspired by the Ford Mustang), larger, modern looking sportscar released in 1967 initially as the DBS with the 4 litre TOHC six cylinder engine from the DB6 predecessor model.

Two years later Tadek Marek’s 5.3 litre V8 initial concept engine was ready and Aston Martin launched the DBS V8, later simply called Aston Martin V8, the company’s mainstream sportscar for nearly two decades.

This rare 1978 1-st year Volante model, the sought after cabriolet version of the Coupé, with elegant chrome bumpers is one of only fifty 1-st series V8 Volantes in LHD with Weber carbs and the desirable manual 5-speed ZF gearbox.
Bought by my Belgian customer and Aston Martin collector from the 2-nd owner in California – USA, also an Aston Martin club member who owned the V8 Volante for 17 years.

My Belgian customer was very much charmed by the car’s attractive Madagascar Brown original livery, still for 90% original paint, and lovingly slight interior patina on the tan hides with brown piping.

With only 34.000 miles from new (what a bonus!) and a in depth service this Aston Martin V8 Volante was the perfect convertible for a 2 months road trip crossing the USA from California to Florida.

It was written in the stars that after this memorable trip my customer would fall in love with this Aston Martin V8 Volante and wouldn’t be able to resist to ship the Madagascar Brown Volante back with him to Belgium.

Once imported and registered in Belgium this Aston Martin V8 Volante underwent a big service taking care of a complete brake overhaul, rebuilding the original Weber carburettors and fitting a completely new stainless steel exhaust system, after which the car joined the owner’s collection of classic Aston Martins and various other interesting oldtimers and exotic sportscars.

Because of too many cars and not enough time to drive them all regularly we, as Aston Martin specialists, were asked by the owner to offer this rather special, low milage (still less than 40.000 miles!), classic 1978 Aston Martin V8 Volante again for sale!

I am convinced it will not take a lot of time before an Aston Martin enthusiast will understand that being able to snap-on this specific V8 Volante is a real opportunity not to be missed…

With such a provenance this 1978 Aston Martin V8 Volante surely is a dream purchase at a very realistic: 195.000 Euro.
