1978 Aston Martin V8 Vantage ‘Flip-tail’ - LHD

Early and rare ‘Flip-tail’ V8 Vantage in Left Hand Drive. The Series 1 V8 Vantage, we are pleased to offer, is in a superb condition throughout, having been owned for the majority of it’s life by known Aston Martin enthusiasts. One of just 23 ‘Flip-tail’s’ built, 12 in LHD, prior to the introduction of the face lifted OI (Oscar India) model, the Flip-tail Vantage is recognised as being lighter than later OI cars and in being distinctively styled, following wind tunnel development by Aston Martin in 1977 and thus, remain desirable to enthusiasts and collectors of the renowned V8 era of Aston Martin production.

Built and despatched from Newport Pagnell, in January 1978 to Aston Martin agents in New York, finished in Jubilee Silver. The car was subsequently purchased in 1994 by US resident, Aston Martin historian and author of Aston Martin V8 books, Kean Rogers. During Roger’s ownership the car was primarily used for touring, whilst being maintained in the USA with assistance from UK based Aston Martin specialists. Imported back into Europe in 2013 by a known Aston Martin enthusiast and marque authority, an extensive programme of preservation and restorative works, have been carried out to all aspects of the car, including an engine rebuild to 5.3 litre Vantage ‘X’ pack + specifications, with special parts and assistance from Aston Martin Director of Engine Development 1984-2000, Arthur Wilson. Dynamometer tested, this superb matching numbers car now delivers 430 bhp, driving its original and rebuilt 5 speed manual ZF transmission.

Now finished in Tudor Green with a recently fully retrimmed interior, in Spruce Green Connolly hides with matching carpets and a new headlining. This exceptional and rare early Flip-tail V8 Vantage, is equipped with a host of established and proven upgrades, including to the suspension and brakes which, combined with the uprated engine performance, provide the ultimate V8 Vantage driving experience.

A detailed history file accompanies the car, including original build details, invoices for parts and services, post engine rebuild dyno sheets and former title documents.
