Aston Martin has previously used the name DBS for a 1967 GT. This modern car replaces the brand's flagship, the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish.

The DBS has a six-litre V12 that can also be found in the DBR9. However, the engine has undergone thorough modifications to be suitable for the DBS. The end result is 517HP (380 kW) at 6,500 revs/min. and 569Nm torque at 5,900 revs/min. The V12 has an extra air intake that opens as soon as the revs exceed 5,500 so extra air is supplied and the engine can cool better. All of this results in 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h (198 mp/h).
