HISTORY
The DB AR1 is derived from DB7, the most successful Aston Martin of all time, having been the first Aston Martin to produce a profit for the company! The DB American Roadster 1 (DB AR1) boasts revised body styling with coachwork by Zagato of Italy. It incorporates a number of dynamic elements, which have been finely engineered to offer a new dimension to the Aston Martin driving experience.
The Aston is powered by an upgraded ‘GT’ version of the V12, which produces power up to 435 bhp and torque to 410 lb ft. Coming with an active sports exhaust system with rear muffler by-pass valves, as used on the V12 Vanquish, provided the DB AR1 with a very distinctive exhaust note and an enjoyable amount of speed. The DB AR1 is also fitted with the DB7 GT quick-shift gear lever for shorter changes, and special multi-spoke 19″ alloy wheels. Braking, supplied through Brembo discs as well as an up-rated brake booster unit as used on the V12 Vanquish, allowed for a firmer and more consistent pedal feel and feedback.
Available only as a two-seater, the DB AR1 has a large distinctive radiator grille and accentuating rear wheel arches, while the carefully detailed features such as the reverse/fog light combination provide graphic evidence of intricate hand craftsmanship and quality that has become an Aston Martin trademark.
OUR DB AR1
This DB AR1, chassis 009, was sold new in the state of Florida and for the first 8 years of its life cherished as a very low mileage example only accumulating 152 miles between 2004 and Septmeber of 2012. Perhaps feeling remorse for not driving it and probably knowing they were going to sell it, in September of 2012 with 152 miles reported at inspection, the car was then used and enjoyed as it should be and by November it had been driven 2820 miles! At the turn of the year, in 2013 it changed hands and was used sparingly until 2016 when it was sold into the UK. It was sold again with little use to Holland but never registered. It was then imported back by us in June of 2025 and available for immediate purchase.
Amazingly, the DB AR1 still retains its accompanying Aston Martin custom leather jacket, coffee table book, both umbrellas and books and tools. It is increasingly hard to find these cars with everything still with the car. This example is in superb condition and would be a fine addition to any discerning collection to be shown on a concours lawn or enjoyed as the first owner did in the last two months of ownership!
