Introduite au salon de l’automobile de Londres 1965 comme l’évolution de la lignée DB initiée par la DB2, l’Aston Martin DB6 constitue l’aboutissement technique des grandes GT britanniques de l’ère David Brown.  Reprenant la technique Superleggera pour sa caisse, développée par la carrosserie italienne Touring, et faisant évoluer le châssis de la DB5, elle s’en distingue par un empattement allongé améliorant à la fois l’habitabilité et la stabilité à haute vitesse. Son arrière tronqué de type « Kamm tail », inspiré des travaux de l’aérodynamicien allemand Wunibald Kamm, optimise également l’aérodynamique tout en lui conférant un style plus moderne et une véritable signature stylistique.  

Sous son long capot prend place le célèbre six-cylindres en ligne Aston Martin conçu par l’ingénieur motoriste Tadek Marek. Entièrement en aluminium et doté d’une distribution à double arbre à cames en tête, il atteint là son ultime déclinaison de 3 995 cm³ et développe 282 ch SAE en configuration standard alimentée par trois carburateurs SU HD8. Cette puissance est même portée jusqu’à 325 ch dans les versions Vantage alimentées par trois carburateurs Weber. Associé à la très recherchée boîte manuelle ZF à cinq rapports synchronisés, ou plus rarement à une boîte automatique Borg-Warner, ce moteur offrait à la DB6 des performances de tout premier ordre pour son époque, avec une vitesse de pointe dépassant les 240 km/h !

L’habitacle illustre quant à lui l’interprétation britannique du luxe sportif : cuir pleine fleur Connolly, moquettes Wilton, instrumentation Smiths complète et position de conduite basse, tournée vers le grand tourisme rapide plus que vers la sportivité radicale.  La DB6 marque la fin d’une époque chez Aston Martin, avant la transition vers la plus moderne DBS, et représente l’un des meilleurs compromis de la production Aston Martin classique. Mature et polyvalente elle plaît par son équilibre entre confort, agrément de conduite et aptitude au grand tourisme rapide, tout en conservant l’élégance intemporelle, le raffinement artisanal et la noblesse mécanique qui caractérisent les grandes Aston Martin des années David Brown.  La DB6 séduisit aussi bien les gentlemen drivers que les grandes figures aristocratiques et artistiques internationales. Produite à seulement 1 788 exemplaires toutes versions confondues entre 1965 et 1970, elle demeure aujourd’hui l’une des Aston Martin classiques les plus appréciées des connaisseurs.

L’Aston Martin DB6 proposée est un coupé en version MK1 de 1968. Elle fait partie des 1327 exemplaires produits. Il s’agit d’une voiture délivrée neuve en Angleterre au dirigeant d’une société de laine. A ce titre c’est une authentique voiture anglaise avec la conduite à droite. 

A l’origine elle fût livrée dans une configuration Dubonnet Rosso avec intérieur cuir noir et moquette assortie, ainsi que l’indique le certificat Aston Martin Heritage joint au dossier. Ce document renseigne également sur le fait que la voiture était au départ équipée de la désirable boite de vitesses manuelle ZF à 5 rapports alors qu’elle est aujourd’hui dotée d’une boîte automatique, probablement installée suite à son arrivée en France pour faciliter son utilisation. En revanche, le certificat Heritage permet de confirmer que cette DB6 a bien conservé son moteur d’origine.  Acquise par le père de l’actuel propriétaire en 2000, alors qu’elle se trouvait déjà en France, immatriculée dans les Alpes Maritimes depuis 1993, cette DB6 a bénéficié d’importants travaux de remise à niveau chez le spécialiste ARS Classic à Signes en 2022, pour près de 26 000 €. 

Outre une révision générale dans le cadre d’une remise en route et la réfection des freins, ainsi que divers travaux esthétiques, une peinture complète et la repigmentation des cuirs ont alors été effectuées. Plus récemment, en 2026, en plus d’un contrôle d’ensemble et de quelques améliorations, le faisceau électrique a été revu et la corrosion signalée lors du dernier passage au contrôle technique traitée. 
Si bien que cette DB6 se trouve aujourd’hui dans un état de fonctionnement tout à fait satisfaisant et bénéficie d’une très belle présentation. Effectivement, repeinte dans une élégante teinte bleu nuit métallisé, qu’elle arborait déjà auparavant, associée à un intérieur cuir magnolia marié à des moquettes bleus assorties à la carrosserie et aux jantes à rayons chromées (MWS), sa configuration est particulièrement attractive. 

Homogène, cette DB6 a aussi l’avantage d’être équipée de la direction assistée optionnelle. Elle affiche tout juste un peu moins de 68 000 miles au compteur et a été expertisée en 2022, pour un montant bien supérieur à l’estimation à laquelle nous la proposons aujourd’hui.  De plus, elle est offerte à la vente sans prix de réserve !  Elle constitue donc une opportunité exceptionnelle, à ne laisser passer sous aucun prétexte, aussi bien pour les investisseurs avisés que les collectionneurs.

Unveiled at the 1965 London Motor Show as the next evolution in the DB line-up that began with the DB2, the Aston Martin DB6 represents the technical pinnacle of the great British GTs of the David Brown era.  Featuring the Superleggera bodywork developed by the Italian coachbuilder Touring, and building on the chassis of the DB5, it distinguished itself with a longer wheelbase that improved both interior space and high-speed stability. Its truncated ‘Kamm tail’, inspired by the work of German aerodynamicist Wunibald Kamm, also optimises aerodynamics whilst giving it a more modern look and a distinctive design signature.  

Under its long bonnet sits the famous Aston Martin straight-six engine designed by engine engineer Tadek Marek. Constructed entirely from aluminium and featuring a double overhead camshaft layout, it reaches its ultimate displacement of 3,995 cc and produces 282 hp SAE in its standard configuration, powered by three SU HD8 carburettors. In the Vantage versions, powered by three Weber carburettors, this output is even increased to 325 bhp. Paired with the highly sought-after ZF five-speed synchronised manual gearbox, or more rarely with a Borg-Warner automatic gearbox, this engine gave the DB6 top-class performance for its time, with a top speed exceeding 240 km/h! 

The interior, meanwhile, embodies the British take on sporty luxury: Connolly full-grain leather, Wilton carpets, a full set of Smiths instruments and a low driving position, geared more towards fast grand touring than outright sportiness.The DB6 marks the end of an era at Aston Martin, prior to the transition to the more modern DBS, and represents one of the finest examples of classic Aston Martin production.

Mature and versatile, it appeals for its balance of comfort, driving pleasure and aptitude for fast grand touring, whilst retaining the timeless elegance, artisanal refinement and mechanical nobility that characterised the great Aston Martins of the David Brown era.  The DB6 appealed to gentleman drivers as well as leading figures from the international aristocracy and artistic circles. With only 1,788 units produced across all versions between 1965 and 1970, it remains one of the most sought-after classic Aston Martins among connoisseurs today.

The Aston Martin DB6 on offer is a 1968 MK1 coupé. It is one of just 1,327 examples produced. The car was originally delivered new in England to the director of a wool company. As such, it is a genuine right-hand-drive British car.  It was originally delivered in a Dubonnet Rosso finish with a black leather interior and matching carpet, as indicated by the Aston Martin Heritage certificate included in the file. This document also states that the car was originally fitted with the sought-after ZF 5-speed manual gearbox, whereas it is now equipped with an automatic gearbox, probably fitted after its arrival in France to make it easier to drive. However, the Heritage certificate confirms that this DB6 has indeed retained its original engine.  Acquired by the current owner’s father in 2000, whilst it was already in France and had been registered in the Alpes-Maritimes since 1993, this DB6 underwent extensive refurbishment work at the specialist firm ARS Classic in Signes in 2022, at a cost of nearly €26,000. 

In addition to a general overhaul as part of the recommissioning process, brake repairs, and various cosmetic work, the car was fully repainted and the leather upholstery re-dyed. More recently, in 2026, alongside a comprehensive inspection and a few upgrades, the wiring harness was overhauled and the corrosion identified during the last MOT test was addressed.  As a result, this DB6 is now in excellent working order and looks absolutely stunning. Indeed, repainted in an elegant midnight blue metallic finish – a colour it previously sported – combined with a magnolia leather interior, blue carpets matching the bodywork, and chrome-spoked wheels (MWS), its specification is particularly attractive. 

This DB6 is in excellent condition and also has the advantage of being fitted with the optional power steering. It has just under 68,000 miles on the clock and was valued in 2022 at a figure well above the estimate at which we are offering it today.  What’s more, it is being offered for sale with no reserve price!  It therefore represents an exceptional opportunity, not to be missed under any circumstances, for both savvy investors and collectors.
