Beschreibung
1965 Aston Martin DB5 – Ogle Design proposal.
Built and despatched in 1965 to first owner David Brown Jnr, son of the late Sir David Brown owner and chairman of Aston Martin Ltd in period, finished in Sierra Blue with a Grey Connolly VM 3393 hide interior. Subsequently, loaned by Aston Martin to leading UK automotive and industrial design consultants Ogle Design, a unique one-off interior was designed and produced by Ogle, for Aston Martin to evaluate for possible production use, in the forthcoming DB6 model introduced later that year.
Totally restored and still featuring the Ogle designed interior, this superb DB5, includes the full set of improved and larger DB6 instruments with repositioned switch gear mounted in a piano black fascia panel, the proposed centre console integrating a padded armrest and cubby box including a chrome plated ashtray and, a large capacity passenger side glove box, as originally fitted. A number of elements of the Ogle designed interior were incorporated into the DB6 model, most notably the front and rear seat design and door trims. The unique and cohesive dashboard design and layout of instruments and switch-gear, is somewhat reminiscent of equivalent period Italian designed sports cars and in keeping with the origins of the DB4, 5 and 6 body design, created by Touring of Milan.
Aston Martin records confirm this exciting and unique car to have been in private ownership in the USA by the mid 1980’s and in Sweden by the year 2000, reportedly in storage. Little history is known of this interesting car’s ownership after the late 60’s, due its exportation to the USA and subsequently Sweden, until it was purchased in 2004 by a known UK based Aston Martin enthusiast and collector, who upon purchasing the car, commissioned a world class total restoration of the whole car. Employing the combined services of Pebble Beach award winning Aston Martin restorers, Bodylines Ltd, Spray Tec Restorations and R S Williams Ltd, the combination produced what can only be described, as a world class, concours standard restoration. Commencing in 2004 the restoration was completed in 2007.
Taking the opportunity during the restoration, to improve the performance and general use ability of this DB5, the matching numbers R S Williams Ltd rebuilt engine is to Vantage 4.2 litre specifications and refrigerated air conditioning has been added, for additional performance and comfort. A new set of alloy rimmed Borrani road wheels were also fitted and the car body finished in the highly popular Silver Birch colour, favoured by a certain commander Bond.
This exceptional example of the iconic DB5 was last purchased in 2018 with just 1,200 miles covered after the restoration by a Channel Islands resident, with use of the car since 2018 restricted to short journeys on the islands and when not in use, the car has been stored in ideal conditions and maintained by Aston Martin specialists.
Presented with a detailed history file including all restoration invoices, build data and early service records. This example of the famed DB5 is in an outstanding condition, with little to no ageing, since it’s total restoration. Is complete with a unique factory commissioned designer interior, the highest quality body work, panel fit and paint finish, superb chrome-work and highly desirable level of is equipment, set off with a desirable set of original Borrani wheels.
With just 1,400 miles now recorded, this is an excellent opportunity for a collector or enthusiast to acquire a unique part of Aston Martin’s history, fully restored by world renowned restorers and ready to be enjoyed, today. Undoubtedly, this example would be a highlight of any collection with its unique Ogle design background and in its current exceptional condition. Undoubtedly it would be welcomed at any major concours event as well as be thoroughly enjoyed on the open road.
