Beschreibung

Chassis No. 4758827

Designed for the expected small-car market, American Austin was founded in 1929-just in time for the Great Depression. They intended to capitalize on the engineering and design of the British Austin 7 and while finding some early success, the economic downturn forced the company into liquidation. By June 1936 the company was restructured as American Bantam.

The two companies produced a variety of vehicles including a practical and useful series 475 panel delivery truck. Acquired by the Academy of Art University Collection in 2013, this Panel Truck, believed to be the survivor with the highest body number, was acquired as a project to educate AAU students on a variety of restoration techniques. It features a Bantam Rooster hood ornament, Parabeam headlamps, solid disc wheels, reupholstered bucket seats, and oak strip roof construction. Offered as a project for restoration, this American Austin Panel Truck is, no doubt, a rare survivor ready for a return to the spotlight.
