Beschreibung

This terrific example of the svelte Franco Scaglione-penned Sprint Speciale benefits from decades of Italian ownership and an award-winning restoration. According to Alfa Romeo factory records on file, chassis 177324 was completed on January 31, 1962, finished in Argento (Silver), and sold to an owner in Padua, Italy. A vintage registration booklet on file demonstrates a progression of Italian ownership until the year 2012.

The Sprint Speciale was restored between 2008 and 2009 by Kristoffer Cartenian of Gipimotor in Brussels, Belgium, who had been a mechanic at Garage Francorchamps. The Giulietta was purchased in December 2013 from Cartenian and imported to the US by enthusiast Tom Papadopoulos. It was awarded Best Alfa Romeo at the 2014 Tutto Italiano held at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Massachusetts, before being acquired by Benny Caiola III of Scottsdale, Arizona, son of the well-known collector. In April 2016, Mr. Caiola traded the Alfa Romeo back to Mr. Papadopoulos, who rebuilt the engine to a lively 1,430 cc specification for improved performance over its original 1,300 cc displacement.

The curvaceous Giulietta joined the consignor’s stable in 2017 and is accompanied by its Italian registration booklet, documentation of the 2016 engine rebuild, and a corresponding dyno sheet. With the perfect blend of Italian style and driving dynamics, it would be ideal for events like the Copperstate 1000. Likewise, it is sure to impress at most any concours d’elegance or marque event.
