Without a doubt, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is one of the legendary cars of the 1960s. Equipped with Alfa's illustrious double overhead cam engine and a chassis of sporty origin, few sedans from this period are as energetic and entertaining as the Giulia. Although the design looks rather angular, it is the epitome of well thought-out aerodynamics. Next year the Alfa Romeo Giulia will be 60 years old, but the Italian classic still exudes a youthful swagger.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is built in every body shape you can imagine. However, one of the rarest versions is a stationwagon! Based on the four-door Berlina, the Giulia Giardinetta was delivered on special order, mainly to Italian police forces, ambulance services and dealers of the brand. Alfa Romeo outsourced the conversion of the Berlina to small specialized body shops. The most famous builder of the Giardinetta is Carrozzeria Colli from Milan.

Yet most of the approximately 800 Giulia’s Giardinetta built, weren’t modified by Carrozzeria Giorgetti – reportedly even half of all. Up to the rear window pillars, the body of the Giulia remained unchanged. By extending the roof, placing panels on the rear wings (with or without side windows) and modifying the so characteristic Giulia trunk lid (the kink in the middle was preserved), the car turned into a practical, stylish and fast stationwagon.

As standard, the Giulia Giardinetta was based on the Giulia Super, with a 1600 cc engine producing 98 hp and mated to a five-speed manual transmission. What makes the Giulia so popular, however, is the possibility to easily exchange parts: a larger engine and a different gearbox can be installed without any problems. That’s exactly what happened with the dark grey 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia 'Familiare', which is now offered by Peet Classics. The original 1600 Super engine has been exchanged for a 1750 cc block, which is fed by two twin Weber carburettors.

This Giulia, converted by Giorgetti, was first registered in 1967. However, it is still a copy of the first series, with a steel dashboard and a trapezoidal instrumentation with the ribbon speedometer, which is so characteristic of this series. In the small tachometer, the red area starts at 6250 rpm.

The Giulia Giardinetta was intended as a utility vehicle. Cars in a good condition are a rarity these days, but the quality of the car offered by Peet Classics immediately catches the eye: the fully documented restoration of the car has only recently been completed. A sober configuration was chosen, with a dark grey paintwork (Grigio Grafite), steel wheels with chrome-plated lids and an interior with chestnut brown leatherette. The floor is covered with black carpet, which can also be found in the back of the trunk. A striking detail: a folding canvas sunroof can be found above the heads of the driver and co-driver.

Given its low weight of 1020 kilos, this rare Giulia Giardinetta is particularly good in today's traffic. But with its 1750 cc engine and five-speed gearbox, the car drives superbly on secondary roads. For example, with an international club meetings or a historic racing event as your destination.
