MODEL HISTORY
The Giulietta family of cars were introduced in 1954 and produced in various body styles (Berlina, Sprint, Spider, Sprint Speciale and Sprint Zagato). It was fitting for the new family of Alfa Romeos to use a new engine, which came in the form of the beautifully engineered 1,300cc twin cam that would be used in Alfa Romeos until 1994, albeit in varying capacities. The Spider was introduced in mid-1955 sporting a stunning body by Pinin Farina. In 1962, the Giulietta family became the Giulia family. Not a huge amount changed visually but the Giulia models featured a 1,600cc version of the same twin cam engine that would become the staple of Alfa Romeos for years to come.

THIS MOTOR CAR
This Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce for sale at The Classic Motor Hub was manufactured on the 21st November 1962 and sold to the Hoffman Motor Car Company in January 1963.

The early history isn’t known but by the late 1970s the car was in California in the ownership of a lady who was a real estate agent in the Napa Valley. She apparently bought the car as she wasn’t enjoying driving her husband’s huge Cadillac around the lanes of the vineyards. In 1989 the car was bought by a Mr. Lantz of Santa Rosa, California. He converted the car from Normale to Veloce specification and enjoyed the car for a few years before a seat belt broke. The Alfa Romeo was parked up and Mr. Lantz intended to fit a more modern seat belt system to the car. Alas, as we all can find, life and personal situations got in the way and the car stayed in dry storage for about 10 years until it was bought by a Mr. Carlin, an architect from Long Island, New York. He would use the car for the odd trip into Manhatten until he could no longer use the car due to a physical ailment. He listed the car on eBay in 2014 and that is where the current owner saw it and fell in love.

A lifelong Alfista, he shipped the car back to the UK and immediately proceeded to comprehensively restore the car. The body was completely stripped and taken back to bare metal by Finishing Touch in Weston-super-Mare. Everything was gone through and thoroughly checked and/or replaced. The compression of the engine was tested and a full top end rebuild was carried out by Price Brothers Engineering. Although the original colour was Red with a Black interior, the owner took the opportunity to restore it in Grigio Grafite with Red seats, a stunning colour combination. The car has been set up with a Chris Robinson handling pack and as a result, sits beautifully and is a joy to drive. It has also picked up several awards since its restoration.

Recently, the opportunity to buy a low mileage, two owner and original Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce came up and the owner jumped at such a rare example.
