This Sprint Speciale is the perfect companion for today's roads; back country rallies, freeway travel, and even city traffic.

According to Marco Fazio of Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo, this SS was manufactured July 24, 1963 and first sold in August 1963 in Latina, Italy. The color was Bluette. The car was imported into the US in 2014 as a running driving SS that had been used in rallies in Italy. The interior and bumpers had been removed and the glass replaced with plexiglas. The motor and suspension had been modified for more aggressive driving. We drove the car like this for over a year trying to decide what to do next and decided to to a full restoration. The next step was to dismantle the Alfa down to the bare body and remove all the paint. The restoration started with the car in bare metal. Every component of 380092 was inspected and restored or replaced as needed. A complete photo documentary is available.
The body was placed on a rotisserie in bare metal and every part was inspected and metal finished as needed to repair any rust or damage. Special care was taken to fit all the gaps on the hood, trunk, and doors. After applying a rust inhibiting primer the body was prepped for paint and block sanded numerous times to insure a very flat surface. The chrome was then fitted to the car and sent out to be refinished. We then painted the car in a blue/green metallic called Verde Oceano, or “green ocean” which was a special color used only once before on a special order 1956 Alfa 1900 CSS. The interior color is Ferrari Saddle leather from the ’70’s era with oatmeal carpet and a new headliner.
The engine has been professionally rebuilt by Niederst Restorations and upgraded to 1700cc using high performance J&E 10.5 to1 pistons. The crankshaft was magnafluxed for cracks, turned, polished and balanced. Rods have been magnafluxed and balanced end to end. This engine will produce @140hp and be very user friendly on the street.
New sport valve springs were used as well as new valves and guides. head cleaned and surfaced along with a valve job. New upper and lower timing chains were installed. intake manifold match ported to head. New cam followers were installed along with high performance cams. (11mm lift on the intake side and 10.5mm lift on the exhaust side) These cams give a nice street friendly power curve with usable low-end torque and still a nice top-end rush. The flywheel is balanced to the crank and new clutch pressure plate. The ignition system is a 123 programable electronic ignition distributor.
The transmission was also rebuilt by Niederst replacing all bearings on the main and layshaft. All gears were internally re-bushed and turned on the lathe for proper fitment. Syncros were updated to the more modern Goetze German syncro rings and all seals were replaced making for a much more robust and smooth shifting transmission.
A new wiring harness was installed and all the gauges, lights, and switches, were restored. The entire fuel system from a new gas tank to rebuilt carburetors, including all lines, filters and pumps were restored. The brakes and brake lines were replaced or restored and a new dual system master from a later Alfa replaced the original to enhance performance and safety.
The aluminum trim, glass, rubber, and lenses are new or in excellent condition. We installed new exhaust and tires and restored the wheels. There are over 2500 miles on the SS since the restoration driving over various roads and some short rallies in the Santa Barbara area.
