"The Alfa Romeo 2600 (designated 106 series) was Alfa Romeo´s six-cylinder flagship model produced from 1962 through to 1968. It was the successor to the Alfa Romeo 2000 and has become historically significant as the last Alfa Romeo to have been fitted with an inline six-cylinder engine and having twin overhead camshafts which had been the traditional Alfa Romeo engine configuration since the 1920's. The 2600 models were first introduced in 1962 in Berlinetta (saloon), Sprint (coupé) and the Spider (convertible) forms. Alfa Romeo only produced 2,255 of the 2600 Spiders between 1962 and 1965. Even rarer are the right hand drive models manufactured in 1964; an example of which is offered here today.
Originally registered to main agents, Mangoletsi, Knutsford, before being sold to its first owner in April 1965, this 2600 Spider was later acquired by an enthusiast and Alfa Romeo club member in 1979. Later handed down to his son, the Alfa was retained in storage until a sympathetic restoration was undertaken by Brookside garage between 1991 and 1993, totalling a cost in excess of £30,000. The car was taken off the road in 1999 and placed in storage once more where it remained until its recent surfacing. This wonderful barn find is offered with a sizeable history file containing the original buff logbook, a restoration photo album, club magazines and documentation, the original service book stamped in 1966, Brooksides 1991 restoration quotation, original sales brochures, manuals and previous MoT test certificates. With the elegant coachwork by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, this example offered without reserve boasts its original registration number and also comes complete with its factory hardtop.
