In 1979 to get the Alfetta turbo approved in Group 4 for rally car recognized, Autodelta developed the Turbodelta version, producing just 400 units as recommended by the regulations. This car received a special engine equipped with a KKK turbocharger (a first in Italy, on a street legal car), connected to Dell'Orto 40H carburettors. The car developed a max power of 150bhp in the marketed configuration - the competition version obviously was much more powerful. In 1980, these promising cars won some success in rallies, but the model was short-lived, because in 1981 Alfa Romeo abandoned rallying altogether and launched instead into Formula 1.
The car that we offer is in good original condition. Having left the factory on December 30, 1977, the car was sold on October 31, 1979 in Florence, Italy. Red in colour, with a matt black bonnet, this car received, a few years ago, a new coat of paint but it still has its original Autodelta side badges. The interior is in spotless gray velvet upholstery which shows only a few signs of wear, and the odometer shows just 6,982km. Very clean, the engine compartment received a repair and car jack is original, and very useful when replacing a wheel.
Its special engine allows the car to reflect its true sporting personality by exceeding 210 km/h, with the 0 to 100 km h time dispatched in 8 seconds. This is a rare version of Alfa Romeo's brief flirtation with rallying, a car whose career was too short to really show up its fullest potential. In this good stat, this car should appeal to Alfisti fans of exotic and original versions.
