Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce 1973

The basic body shape shared by all 105/115 series coupés was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone. It was one of his first major projects for Bertone, and borrowed heavily from his earlier design for the Alfa Romeo 2000 Sprint/2600 Sprint. The balance of glass and metal, the influence of the shape of the front and rear glass on the shape of the cabin, and the flat grille with incorporated headlamps were groundbreaking styling features for the era.

All models featured the four cylinder, all-light-alloy Alfa Romeo Twin Cam engine in various cubic capacities from 1290 cc to 1962 cc, all with two valves per cylinder. All versions of this engine fitted to the 105 series coupés featured twin carburettors, except for US market 1750 GTV and 2000 GTV cars which were fitted with fuel injection. Competition models featured cylinder heads with twin spark plugs. Common to all models was also a 5-speed manual transmission and disc brakes on all four wheels. The rear suspension uses a beam axle with coil springs. Air conditioning and a limited slip rear differential were optional on the later models.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT was the first Giulia sport model introduced, and was manufactured from 1963 to 1965. It was revealed at a press event held at the then newly opened Arese plant on 9 September 1963, and displayed later the same month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In its original form the Bertone body is known as scalino or 'step front', because of the leading edge of the engine compartment lid which sat above the nose of the car.

The Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce, also known as the 2000 GTV, was introduced in 1971 together with 2000 Berlina sedan and 2000 Spider. The 2000 range was the replacement for the 1750 range. Once again Alfa rationalized the engine throughout the range. The engine displacement was increased to 1962 cc with a change of the bore and stroke to 84 mm x 88.5 mm. Oil and radiator capacities remained unchanged. It resulted in an engine producing 130 HP at 5500 RPM. Cars destined for the American and Canadian markets once again featured SPICA fuel injection, while other markets retained the carburetors.

The interior trim was also changed, with the most notable differences being the introduction of a separate instrument cluster, instead of the gauges installed in the dash panel in earlier cars. The 2000 GTV is most recognizable by its grille with chrome horizontal bars, featuring protruding blocks forming the familiar Alfa heart and the larger rear light clusters. Those were first fitted to US 1750 GTV’s, but were now standard for all markets on the 2000 GTV.

The engine was rebuilt at a well known specialist and the car received further maintenance and some small repairs.

The car is ideal if you wish to wish to have a nearly 50 year old sportscar which still drives very well. It is agile, handles very well, has enough power to make you a race driver and even stops well with 4 wheel disc brakes. It also features a limited slip differential. The big advantage is these cars a lightweight compared to modern cars.

Well set up they will bring 195 km/h but more importantly she will run 140-150 km/h all day with the smooth 5 speed gearbox.The car is Dutch registered and comes with ownership history, invoices, valuation report and is just lovely.
