The Alfa Romeo 2000, known to Alfisti as the “cast iron block two-liter,” was introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1957 in Saloon form as the successor to the outgoing 1900. The 2000 entered production for the 1958 model year offered as either a “Berlina” sedan or the Touring-bodied Spider as offered here. A Coupe version became available in 1960.

The Spider, produced from 1958 to 1961, was Alfa Romeo’s flagship open touring car, offering a more luxurious and refined package than the smaller 1,300-cc Giulietta Spider. The 2000 was a true open GT car, capable of a comfortable 100+mph long-distance cruising speed. Fewer than 3,500 of these Spiders were produced over approximately four years.

The Alfa offered here was recently imported to the U.S. from Canada, and looks to have received a restoration at some point in the past. It wears a repaint in what is likely the original color. New tires have been added while in the present ownership.

A charming example overall, the Touring Spider retains many of its original details and is described by the consignor as being a running and driving example. It is understood that the engine may have been rebuilt while in prior ownership.

The 2000 Spider is a true coachbuilt 1950s Italian rarity, though it has long been overlooked in favor of other, more expensive contemporaries such as the Lancia Aurelia B24 Convertible. With the market still yet to catch on to the wonderful attributes and driving experience that a 2000 has to offer, this example would make a wise choice for the Alfa enthusiast who desires something a bit different.
