Beschreibung

In 1954, to honour the advertising claim that called the Alfa Romeo 1900 series the “family car that wins races” Alfa engineers decided to prepare a “Super” option capable of going even faster. The range spawned three new models – the 1900 Super, the 1900 Super T. I. and the 1900 Super Sprint Coupé. The top of the range Super Sprint model had some 35bhp gain over the standard 1900 and, unlike the previous models, were fitted with a 5-speed gearbox.

The Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint was designed and assembled by Touring with their iconic Superleggera aluminium bodywork. Held in high consideration by gentleman drivers and private teams alike, it soon built a reputation as the winning car in its category. Its road holding, speed and reliability made it the most successful model in the GT class.

This 1900 Super Sprint by Touring was manufactured on 12th November 1956 and sold on the 17th November in Cremona, Italy.

The Alfa would remain in its homeland for the next forty years, registered as 188055 FC. Its final Italian owner was the well-known Alfa Romeo collector Walter Savani, only being imported and registered here in the UK in 1996. Over the following twenty-five years this 1900 has enjoyed a high level of maintenance, and has been with the current owner for the past 17 years.

With him, the Alfa has been used as intended, including competing in the Mille Miglia and Gran Premio Nuvolari, amongst other international events, without any issues. In December 2020 it received an extensive engine rebuild at a cost of over £10, 000 by renowned engine specialist Mass Racing Ltd.

Presented with a good history file of invoices, FIVA identity card (currently being renewed) and FIA papers dated 2009. This Alfa Romeo is highly eligible for nearly all historic events and is a well sorted example ready for any adventure.
