Introduced by Associated Equipment Company (AEC) in 1954, the Routemaster was produced until 1968 and saw continuous service in London until 2005, it currently remains in service on two heritage routes in central London. A pioneering design which was specifically designed for the capital’s streets, the Routemaster outlasted several of its replacement types, survived the privatisation of the former London Transport bus operator and was used in proliferation by other operators around Great Britain.
During the recent new millennium, debates surrounded the issue of whether to replace *or* retain the Routemaster in London service.
