The Chris-Craft legend began in Algonac, Michigan on the St. Clair River in 1874, when a 13 year-old boy by the name of Christopher Columbus Smith built his first boat. It was a simple lake boat for duck hunting, but it got him and his brother Hank building a succession of wooden boats. From these modest beginnings the brothers established a company that would evolve into one of the world’s most renowned and universally recognized names in boat building. Some dictionaries even list the word Chris-Craft as a synonym for “pleasure boat”.
It would be difficult to find a nicer example of the brand than this one-year-only Continental model. It has recently been meticulously restored with over $100,000 invested. It is reported to be one of only 96 built and part of approximately “a dozen known to exist.” The Continental has quite exclusive styling with a factory fiberglass hardtop that is supported by nicely detailed aluminum struts. This beauty runs with a Lincoln-based Chris-Craft 430-cid, 275-hp V-8 engine. The wood and color offerings are exquisite, plus the hardtop has hinged T-tops that really take hold of your attention. Included in the sale is a new custom tandem-axle trailer as well as a waterline mooring cover. The Chris-Craft is an international boat show winner and comes with a copy of the Chris-Craft Runabout Equipment Record of its October, 1960 build.
