The modern history of Triumph really began with John Bloor's purchase of the name and manufacturing rights in 1983 but it took until 1991 before a new range of motorcycles was launched to the public. In the meantime, a state-of-the-art factory had been constructed in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Reviving famous names of the past, such as Bonneville and Daytona, Triumph's new look range consisted of both 750cc and 950cc triples and 1000cc and 1200cc fours, all utilising modular design platforms.
Based on the original Daytona 750, the first Triumph to emerge in the Hinckley era, the 1200 was a seriously brawny alternative to the bike Japanese superbikes of the era.
