The fabled Formula 1 racing driver, Ayrton Senna, was known to have contacts in high places. Aside from the long list of close allies from the racetrack, the Brazilian counted Claudio Castiglioni, then the boss of MV Agusta, as a personal friend. The Italian motorcycle magnate had transformed his family’s company, Cagiva, into a top-tier manufacturer further to buying and reviving the Ducati brand in the 1980s, and later turning his attentions to MV Agusta. In 2002, the marque unveiled the F4 750 Senna, some eight years after the Brazilian driver’s tragic death.
Named for the Instituto Ayrton Senna, the Brazilian children’s charity founded in the wake of Senna’s passing, the bike was Castiglioni’s tribute to his late friend. Production was limited to only 300 examples, and was based on MV Agusta’s acclaimed F4 750 platform. The model was built around a fuel-injected 749 cc inline-four engine, uprated compared to the standard F4, and capable of a top speed of 286 km/h. As with any MV Augusta, the F4 750 Senna was beautifully styled, with this special edition wearing sleek black fairing over a red frame, with silver-and-red wheels.
The example offered here, numbered 198 of the 300 built, presents in stunning condition, with only 812 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing. It is accompanied by a motorcycle cover, paddock stand, and selected MV Agusta manuals. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/mu22.
