The MV Agusta 750 S America evolved from a visit to the MV Agusta factory in Cascina Costa, Italy by official American importers Chris Garville and Jim Cotherman in May 1974. They found MV’s directors extremely enthusiastic when approached about developing the MV Agusta 750 Sport into a model suitable for the US market. Powered by a Grand Prix racing four-cylinder engine with gear-driven overhead camshafts, the 750 Sport was one of the most expensive and exclusive motorcycles available but no longer met strict US DOT regulations. The new 750 S America would meet these requirements and become one of the most famous MV models in the company’s history.

This spectacular MV Agusta 750 S America has a unique, fascinating provenance. The motorcycle was delivered new to Chris Garville and Jim Cotherman’s distributorship, Commerce Overseas Corporation of Elmsford, New York. It is possible that it was initially used for promotional purposes and magazine tests. This 750 S America remained with Chris Garville and the Commerce Overseas Corporation until 1984, when ownership was transferred to his brother, Peter Garville, in California.

Mark Cummings acquired the bike in 1990, and in 1994, at Daytona, Cummings had multiple MV Agusta World Champion John Surtees sign the fuel tank, as documented by a photo on file. Cummings once worked for former Texas MV Agusta dealer Perry Bushong, who, in 2014, was engaged to carry out a two-year restoration on the bike. Apart from the removal of the airbox and the installation of a Kay Engineering exhaust system for more performance and an even better exhaust note, this MV 750 S America was otherwise restored to its original specification.

Included in the sale are owner’s and workshop manuals, ownership records, marketing materials, and a blue and yellow California license plate. Moreover, the bike is accompanied by numerous spares, including a chrome exhaust system, stock black mufflers, stock air box, and other assorted items. The MV is also documented with a report by marque specialist Peter Boggia of Moto Borgotaro in Brooklyn, New York.

Offered in stunning condition with a beautiful four-cylinder soundtrack, this exceptional, very rare and desirable early MV Agusta 750 S America could be the crowning jewel in any important motorcycle collection.
