Beschreibung
When BMW introduced the R100RS in 1977, its brilliant seven-piece frame-mounted fairing promised unsurpassed rider weather protection without sacrificing style. The fairing allowed for even more comfortable high-speed, long-distance touring, something BMW motorcycles have long been known for. The RS was a fantastic and sporting all-around tourer and produced a stout 70 hp, propelling it to a claimed top speed of 122 mph. Combined with BMW’s legendary build quality and excellent handling from the boxer engine’s low center of gravity, the R100RS was an extraordinarily capable and impressive machine. For 1978, BMW produced a rare limited Motorsport Edition R100RS in a stunning white, red, and blue livery as an homage to their iconic racing colors. Only 200 were built worldwide, making them one of the most sought after of all 1970s BMWs.
This outstanding example was purchased new in 1978 by a senior architect at a firm in Boston. He rode the bike sparingly, only adding about 1,000 miles before placing it in static storage. Since then, it has had just two owners including the consignor and has been extremely well preserved. Today the RS presents in stunning original condition and shows just 1,042 miles, making it one of the finest, low-mileage examples extant. Discerning BMW collectors should not miss this outstanding opportunity to acquire a highly collectible, eminently usable R100RS, one of the finest motorcycles of the 1970s.
