1956 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta by Zagato wins Best of Show at 2011 ‘Uniques’

David Sydorick’s Zagato-bodied GT Ferrari beat stiff opposition at this year’s ‘Uniques’ concours in Florence.

The two-tone 250 GT, a car extensively raced in period, and with a 1956 Mille Miglia entry to its name, was a worthy winner of the Best of Show prize. That said, the standard of competition was so high that either of the runners-up – Bernie Carl’s 1962 Ferrari 268 SP and Arturo Keller’s 1938 Bugatti Type 57S by Gangloff – could have taken overall victory.

Held at the super-deluxe Four Seasons Hotel Florence, and organised by MAC Group, the exclusive concours is now in its second year and is a celebration of truly significant motor cars: one-offs, examples with famous ownership or celebrated racing or motor show success.

It was fitting that a Zagato-styled car won the overall award, as the great Milanese coachbuilder was afforded a class of its own, with several examples of Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Ferrari so-bodied gracing the gardens.
