21/11/2011 Ferraris at Scottsdale 2012, Part I: RM Auctions
An early consignment to RM’s forthcoming 2012 Arizona sale is this 1957 Ferrari 410 Superamerica, a car with out-of-this-world bodywork by Scaglietti. It was the first 'Scaglietti Ferrari' and the only 410 Superamerica carrying coachwork by the firm (est. $1,750,000 - $2,250,000).
The red (with stylish, very 1950s brushed stainless steel roof and tailfins) car was one of just six Series II Superamaricas, and built specifically for Dottore Enrico Wax, head of the Genoa firm Wax & Vitale, Johnny Walker whisky and Connolly leather importers.
Joining the dramatic coupé will be a 1991 F40 (ordered new by Lee Iacocca, $650,000 - $750,000) a 1952 342 America Pinin Farina Coupé (chassis 0246 AL, the 1953 Geneva Motor Show car) for $800,000 - $1,000,000, a 1973 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder ($900,000 - $1,100,000) and a matching-numbers 1958 250 GT Elena. The latter berlinetta, chassis 0861, is fully restored and one of only 15 known to remain in original condition. Estimate: $450,000 - $550,000.
The RM Auctions ‘Automobiles of Arizona’ Sale will take place from 19 to 20 January 2012 at the Canadian company’s familiar Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa venue.
