Saab Heritage Museum: Home win as collection is retained

In yet another twist in the drawn-out Saab saga, the heritage collection of the doomed carmaker – comprising around 120 special cars – has been retained by the Trollhättan museum.

As previously reported by Classic Driver, liquidators had intended to sell the museum cars to the highest bidder(s) on the 23 January; offering the collection either as a whole, or broken down into individual units to increase revenue.

However, it seems the liquidators hadn’t reckoned with the collection’s host: the city of Trollhättan united with Saab AB (Saab Automotive’s former parent company) and the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Fund to gather the approximately 3 million euros necessary to satisfy the receivers.

Although this ultimately means disappointment for those hoping to procure a memento of the ill-fated Swedish manufacturer, many Saab enthusiasts will seek welcome solace in the collection being preserved at its existing site. Cars such as the very first ‘Ursaab’ of 1946 will continue rubbing door handles with contemporary descendants such as the 2006 AeroX concept, and the 1985 Saab 900 Turbo 16 EV-1 concept examined earlier this week by Classic Driver.
