| 1961 Maserati Tipo 63 Legends are pleased to offer this iconic 2ltr, mid engined Maserati Birdcage for sale. This Maserati has competed at topflight historic events since 1988 which includes the Le Mans Classic, Goodwood, Montlhéry, Nürburgring, Balocco, Spa and Silverstone events. The car has been properly sorted with proven reliability, It is believed that the car has never experienced a mechanical failure! The car was constructed around a genuine spare long wheel base chassis that was acquired during the early 1980’s utilizing genuine Maserati period componentry throughout. The two-litre engine, No. AM6 008, was purchased at Cuppellini in 1985 and subsequently overhauled by Rick Hall in Spring 2000. Invoices are present. The correct Tipo 63 gearbox was purchased from Stephan Forristall in 1985, rebuilt with new gear and dog sets. The Aluminum coachwork was rebuilt in 1985. In place of the long Perspex windscreen an Alfa Romeo Giula SS Bertone screen has been installed in accordance to the 1961 Le Mans regulations, the new rules stated that it was compulsory to use a laminated screen. Also, this screen makes the car very comfortable and usable to drive on the public road. If so desired, the car could be changed back to a Perspex screen, which gives a configuration option. The car holds a UK V5 document as well as a current MOT. Current FIA HTP papers have been held since 1990. It is important to bare in mind that most Tipo 63 are different, having changed both chassis and bodywork during their racing lives, this point is stated in a letter directly from Maserati. The Birdcage offered here has been constructed around period components, which includes the chassis, and the collective story is clear! POA
