| Year : 1959 Make : Rolls-Royce Model : Silver Cloud I Coachbuilder : H.J. Mulliner Body Type : Drophead Coupe Colour : Black Trim : Beige Leather Piped Tan History : The success of the Silver Dawn prompted Rolls-Royce to pursue its post war policy of producing “standard” factory built coachwork with the introduction of the all new Silver Cloud in early 1955. John Blatchley who was chief designer at Rolls-Royce at this time was given the task of styling the new coachwork and his work met with wide approval. The new offering from Rolls-Royce was larger in size than its predecessor but is still considered to be one of the most elegant and balanced models ever produced. However in true Rolls-Royce style, coachbuilt options were also available on the Cloud I chassis. When it came to open coachwork H.J. Mulliner began with the all aluminium bodied Design No 7410, produced in relatively few numbers. Following the cessation of production of the 7410 model H.J. Mulliner moved onto the arguably more attractive Design No 7504. A highly limited number of “Standard Steel” Silver Cloud I’s were adapted at their works in Chiswick, retaining the basic lines of the coachwork in the form of a very elegant drophead coupe. The correct term for this rare and desirable motor car is an “Adaptation” by H.J. Mulliner and should not be confused with cars that have subsequently been converted in more recent times. Just three original H.J. Mulliner drophead coupes were built in right hand drive to Design No 7504 on the Silver Cloud I chassis and we are very pleased to be able to offer one for sale at this time. Chassis No SMH129 was completed in May of 1959 and supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd to the order of Mr Percy Myers, a London based businessman who lived in Portland Place. It came complete with a power hood and benefited from the later and unquestionably superior mechanical specification, with factory power steering, improved braking system and larger carburettors all fitted. Chassis No SMH129 was first acquired by Frank Dale & Stepsons in the late 1980’s when prepared and supplied to Japanese artist Hiro Yamagata in Los Angeles. It remained in the United States until 2008 when it returned to the UK. It was subsequently acquired by another of our customers who has re-commissioned the car to meet his high standards. The work carried out over several years has brought SMH129 up to a very high standard throughout cosmetically with its on road performance correctly described as outstanding. The car has been checked, serviced and prepared in our workshops as per our normal policy. It is also complete with tools and handbook. The opportunity to acquire an original Silver Cloud I built to Design No 7504 is rare and may not be repeated for several years to come. In our opinion this is perhaps the ultimate post war Rolls-Royce with open coachwork and should be strongly considered by collectors, enthusiasts and admirers of the marque alike. Condition : Very good condition. Technical Data : Four speed automatic gearbox, power steering, 6 cylinder in-line configuration engine, 4.9 litres displacement, 4887cc capacity. Drum brakes servo-assisted. FOR MORE PHOTOS AND INFORMATION PLEASE GO TO WWW.FRANKDALE.COM
