When Jaguar introduced the XKE it was unprecedented. Not only was it the most beautiful automobile on the road, it was the best performance value, offering 265hp from its 3.8 liter engine and four-wheel independent suspension. Its performance put it firmly in competition with Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati. Jaguar owners never had to make excuses at stoplights or on twisty back roads for the gorgeous bodywork of Malcolm Sayer and Sir William Lyons. The E-type was the whole package. Over time, though, it got better, growing in displacement and adopting a better all synchromesh gearbox. E-type owners, though, cherish the simplicity of the early XKEs, which leads to the concept behind this superb XKE. It s a 3.8 liter 64 with all the visual cues that make the original, pure, XKEs appreciated by collectors. It s been restored to concours condition throughout just two years ago with superb cosmetics in dark blue over red leather piped in dark blue and blue cloth top. The engine is bored .030 over for a full 3.8 liters (3,843cc) against the standard XKE s 3,741cc. That aside, all the details have been addressed in addition to the facets of a quality rebuild: high performance starter, high capacity radiator with electric fan, negative ground electrical system, Pertronix ignition, lightened flywheel, heavy duty alternator and stainless steel exhaust. The Moss gearbox is gone, replaced by a full synchro Tremec 5-speed. The fuel system is Holley Red Line open loop fuel injection that looks stock, but runs much better. Chrome wire wheels and red line radial tires on a completely rebuilt suspension and a rebuilt brake system complete the package. This is the best driving E-type in the country. It flies. If William Lyons could have built this car in 1964 be assured he would have. It is the perfected E-type, but it looks totally stock, although with paint, chrome and interior that are far better than ever came from Coventry. It is an experience and begs to be experienced.
