Recently shot in northern Italy, these pictures show the all-new
Ferrari F60 that’s to be released at the 2002 Paris Motor Show and
of which Ferrari claims to have firm orders for about 100 cars -
although the price will be beyond 500.000 euro...
Surely Ferrari would never do an Estate - or would they?
Well, in this story Christian Frost took place behind the wheel
of A 456 GT complete with V12, 442bhp, a top speed of 300 km/h and
room for a Labrador...
“The 550 Barchetta Pininfarina is dedicated to those who have fond memories of
Ferrari's large, open 12-cylinder model and have taken it into their hearts, to
those who appreciate the delight and enjoyment of being at one with nature, both
on the road and on the race-track. It is for those who recognise that each Ferrari
is a unique source of excitement, an excitement conjured up merely by hearing
sound of the engine in the clear, fragrant air, by mere contact with the steering
wheel, by the ecstasy of speed and the pleasure of experiencing the unique styling
of one of the classic roadsters created in Maranello.”...
The
365 P “Guida Centrale”, also known as the “Tris Speciale”, was Ferrari's rapid
response to the Lamborghini Miura, years before the Berlinetta-Boxer, which became
the actual rival of the Miura, was launched in 1971. Back in 1966, in Paris, Pininfarina
had presented a very original Berlinetta, whose engine was fitted in the centre
of the frame. The striking feature of this car was the glass area enlarged by
a transparent roof section, which permitted a free view into the interior; it
incorporated three seats, with the 'pilot' taking the seat in the middle...
In
its day the pretty little Dino was the cheapest Ferrari ever marketed, in Ferrari
terms at least a budget super car that was pitched directly at the Porsche 911.
It rang changes in other ways too, for in place of Ferrari's traditional V12 lump
up front, the Dino had a V6 transversely mounted amidships.....
Referred
to as 'The best all around Ferrari', the 330 GTC was a high speed two seater grand
touring car first shown at Geneva Salon in March 1966, it was the most sophisticated
and elegant in the long line of GTs produced by Ferrari. In recent years this
car has been professionally restored and is a serious contender for a concours
event. The first test report to be published by the specialised media was by Paul
Frere in 'The Motor' in November 1966 in which he stated: 'The greatest surprise
is the silence of the engine, in handling the 330 GTC...
Ferrari
330 LMB is easily forgotten, since it was the successor to the legendary 250 GTO.
But 330 LMB deserves its place in history as the last Ferraris great front-engined
racing cars. We are visiting Duncan Hamilton Ltd., a specialist in fine automobiles,
and in a careless moment Adrian promised me I could drive the sparkling Ferrari
330 LMB which right now adorns the showroom. Judging by the look on Adrian’s face,
he’s having second thoughts right now, but then a deal is a deal - especially
when the deal concentrates around driving a Ferrari....
They
say about the 250 GTO that 39 were build - and all 100 of them are still running.
The point being, that since the GTO was first brought out, several less valuable
250 GT’s have been cannibalized and rebuild into perfect look-a-likes of the more
sought after 250 GTO (or reproductions, as they’re called) which are perfect in
every detail, and indistinguishable from the real thing....
Alberto
Capelli lives in Rimini in the southern part of Italy, where he runs a trucking
business with his brother. Alberto looks a bit like Mussolini, though I’m quite
confident the two couldn’t be more different in character. Alberto is forever
smiling, talking about his extensive collection of classic cars like they were
his children. Mercedes, MGs, Alfa Romeos and Lancias are cluttered in the ground
floor of the vast garage which is the family business. In the basement there are
even more cars in various stages of restoration, including rare pieces like a
Graham, which incidentally was the first ever supercharged automobile. In the
middle of it all sits the showpiece, the Ferrari 250 GTE which used to belong
to the Polizia Stradale in Rome....
Ferrari
PR-supremo, Tim Watson, allegedly aimed to take in the maximum doses of tunnels
and mountainsides, while planning the test route for the launch of the new Ferrari
360 Spider. You hardly need a Crystal ball to work out why, just let the needle
in the rev counter touch the 9000rpm redline. In front of me there’s a sweeping
road, with bends as soft and curvaceous as the signature of Sergio Pininfarina,
lined by the rocky mountainside on my left, and a impenetrable forest of cypress
trees on my right. Behind me is the glorious wail from 3586cc of Ferrari V8, boasting
40 valves, eight titanium conrods and producing 400bhp. ....
One
of the rarest Ferrari models is the so-called “Daytona”, named after the 24-hour
race of the famous city in Florida which was won in ’67 by Ferrari. We portrait
one of the extremely rare Daytona-Spider, one of the fastest open-top cars ever
built. And: It is considered to be the zenith of the long series of front-engined
sports cars from Maranello....
One
of the world's most spectacular cars, Ferrari's 550 Maranello, is blowing its
top - in a bid to boost sales! The firm will introduce an open-top car, based
on the mighty 550, to sell alongside the 360 Modena Spider. The sensational news,
confirmed by Ferrari insiders, means the marque no longer faces being overshadowed
by the Mercedes SLR, currently being developed with McLaren. ...
The
new F60 will be developed by a team of Maranello technicians including a very
famous name: Michael Schumacher. The car is planed to be a direct rival to the
Mercedes SLR which will hit the roads in 2003 and is developed with the aid of
Mika Häkkinen. This, it seems, will continue the Formula-1 fight between both
makes on the road, too: Mercedes versus Ferrari.....
