I've been hitting the circuits a bit this week. On Wednesday it was a wet Silverstone, during lunchtime before I sat down with the Brundles, père et fils, to discuss (among a variety of topics) watches, Le Mans and the Goodwood Revival. We'll be running that story next week.
Last night I returned to the scene of a crime committed against all sound principles of track–craft, and made my second visit to a go–karting track in less than a month.
This is where — for a modest amount of money — you can be humiliated at the hands of younger guns more familiar with the concepts of 'line' and 'technique' than the all–you–can–eat buffet table.
Let's just say I had a 'lonely' race. But it was jolly good fun and really does give you a taste of motor racing, with all the sport's time–sheet elation/desolation.
And, if you're considering some historic racing, it soon puts you in good shape for the season ahead. Karting is also a cheap way of making you realise you might not be quite as naturally talented as you thought you were. But that never applied to me, obviously.

Tour Auto Optic 2ooo, 16-21 April 2012
It was another AC Cobra benefit on this year's Tour Auto as the British Driver Shaun Lynn was declared provisional winner after five days of close racing and meticulous timekeeping between stages.
