EDITORIAL

Legendary Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni tells a wonderful tale of waiting with Ferruccio Lamborghini, late one evening, while a customer drives away their latest expensive purchase.

With its V12 wailing, the car can be heard accelerating into the darkness, away from Sant'Agata Bolognese. Listening to the engine note, Lamborghini takes a draw on an ever–present cigarette and counts the gearchanges: "First, second, third, fourth, fifth... we can go home now."

A great story about one of the industry's pioneering characters. Anthony Colin Bruce 'Chunky' Chapman was another, and the weirder–than–weird situation that we find Lotus in right now defies my analysis.

Go Google and prepare for total bafflement, plus some highly amusing comment on a company that is no longer sponsoring its own F1 team (or maybe it is, I really don't understand it at all).

Come on, Lotus, get your act together; we don't want you going the way of so many other, remotely owned British sports car companies.

Editor's Choice: Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
