I am sitting at my desk with a slightly ricked neck. The reason for this was innocently parked–up a few feet over my right shoulder, on the other side of a wall. It has now moved. 'It' being a Guards Red, 996–series 911 Carrera.
Terrific cars, I am sure, but nonetheless overlooked nowadays in the rush for a nicely specced 993 model, "while they are still affordable".
Now, I spent more time than was completely necessary last weekend watching the Amelia Island sales online via my iPad. And what came up time and time again was provenance and the little things that make one car stand out from another.
Such as colour, specification and bespoke commissioning. So, in decades to come, watch out for an "...unbelievably rare colour combination, understood to be one of only xxx such cars delivered to the UK, Guards Red Porsche 911 Carrera (996) Coupé..." and think of me.
Anyone out there got a standard 996 Carrera in pale blue, red or bright green? They do look rather cool.
