The Nina Simone album 'Remixed & Reimagined' has been no stranger to the editorial turntable in recent weeks.
Eagle's Speedster, the headlining car in this week's newsletter, is the automotive equivalent. Take a definitive, truly ground–breaking concept and update it to sit happily in a modern context: a little funkier, with more pace and better production.
It is quite clearly no longer the thing it once was, so cannot be considered 'better'. Owners of original E–types will have their opinion and, like their audiophile equivalents, may well decide to remain happy with the 1960s version.
I, for one, am happy to experiment, and find the new Speedster a hip modern take on a classic. How about you?

DRIVING REPORT
The Eagle Speedster: Improving an icon
There are three things in life I've always vowed never to do: make a parachute jump (unless forced), eat a salt beef sandwich or buy a Jaguar E–type, writes Simon de Burton. Now I've not just changed my mind, but made a complete volte–face. I want an E-type, possibly more than any other car — but not one of the ones made by Jaguar.

1952 Alfa Romeo C52 'Disco Volante'
On first glance, the voluptuous curves of the Alfa Romeo C52 'Disco Volante' could momentarily be mistaken as those of a Jaguar E–type; and indeed, had its cash-strapped manufacturer not shelved the project in favour of other pursuits, it might have become Alfa's magnum opus.

Classic Driver Marketplace Essentials: Born in the USA
One of the joys of classic cars is that they were built before market globalisation and thus embody the 'personality' of their country of origin. American cars are a perfect example, built to suit the landscape and cultural habits of a country that, barely one hundred years older than motorised vehicles, literally grew up with the automobile.
