Few car-makers could field the huge variety of racing models that carried the Porsche badge at last weekend's event on the Monterey Peninsula.

In fact, the 'other' marque with a rearing stallion on its badge (Ferrari) would probably be the only manufacturer that could challenge the German marque on this front.

As with the great Maranello company, Porsche's name is synonymous with success in the USA, both on and off the racetrack.

So it was fitting that while the weekend saw the North American debut of the 991–series 911, the all–new car was to be seen among famous Porsches past: the 917, 356 and multi–coloured Carrera RSRs of all ages.

In this instance, it's certainly not a case of 'out with the old, in with the new'.
