EDITORIAL

Well, it was worth the trip. This year’s Villa d'Este, my first, was terrific. As a standard–bearing, badge–wearing 1960s GT enthusiast, even I would say that some sublime, standard–bodied Ferraris, Astons and Maseratis were put in the shade by many unique designs from earlier decades.
We've a host of stories on the event, including much video and knowledgeable commentary from those very much 'in the know'. And I say a few things, too.
There's also a round–up of two days' frantic saleroom activity from Monaco, Villa d'Este and Aston Martin Works Service, Newport Pagnell — a world of barnstorming 'barn finds' and Ferraris with an awful lot of noughts to their name.
It's clearly time for a lie–down or, even better, a weekend in front of the TV watching the Monaco Grand Prix. Until next week, then.

With a headlining gross sales figure of over 23m euros, RM can be pretty satisfied with its inaugural Villa d'Este sale. The figure could have been higher, of course, had one or two of the feature lots sold for really big money.

Ferraris took the top slots at Bonhams' 2011 Monaco auction. The big BBLM was a non–seller, but another competition car, the 1976/1983 308GTB Berlinetta Group B Michelotto, sold for 460,000 euros.
