EDITORIAL

If you can measure the quality of a classic car exhibition by the absence of shop–window mannequins dressed in period clothing, this year's Rétromobile show in Paris scores nine stars out of a possible ten.

I think I only saw one — but do correct me — and the lady in question was standing on the roof of a Citroën Traction Avant with the customary 1930s floppy hat and jaunty expression. We've spared you this image, but hopefully brought some of the quality flavour of the show to your desktop this week.

Elsewhere in today's ClassicInside, German tuner Techart has worked its magic on the Panamera (and you can expect a lot more of this sort of stuff, accomplished a lot less tastefully at the forthcoming Geneva show) and the classic car auction world whirls on.

By and large, prices have softened but are holding reasonably steady – let's see what happens at Amelia Island, when several 'investor–grade' Ferraris cross the block.

SIHH 2010: The most important new watches

Crisis? What crisis? The Geneva watch salon, SIHH, was predicted by pessimists to be rather flat this year. But on the contrary: the 19 exhibitors from Audemars Piguet to Vacheron Constantin could look back on some good business, especially in the closing months of 2009. read more...
