EDITORIAL
Don't panic, you've not crossed into another space/time continuum: it is Thursday, but we've decided to send your newsletter a day early as it includes a hot–off–the–press road test of the Ferrari 458 Italia.
And what a car. By a strange coincidence, the main driving event at Maranello this week for UK–based journalists just happened to be at the same time as McLaren released more video footage of its exciting MP4–12C. This is the car that our Ferrari's tester, John Simister, describes as having "a mammoth task" to match the latest two–seater from Maranello.
Think of it as the battle between the recently announced all–British driver line–up of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton at McLaren next year.
They are both very good — but there can only be one winner. I know who I would put my money on in F1... And between the 458 Italia and the MP4–12C? Not sure.
Mind you, for those fretting at the thought of a two–year wait for the latest Ferrari, how about a 'regular' F430 coupé? I still maintain, for neck–snapping acceleration and sublime handling, it's nigh–on unbeatable. Up till now, evidently.
So, until next week's, regular Friday edition, have a great weekend. Just remember to go to the office tomorrow.

First Drive: Ferrari 458 Italia
On the roads, it's invincible, says John Simister
The world is falling over. "Stop!" I shout to my colleague, who is driving, because a wave of nausea is threatening to overwhelm me. I've made the mistake of looking at the route book, just as he decides to see how quickly the new Ferrari 458 Italia can accelerate.

Originally built by Kremer Porsche for Willi Rabl, the Austrian Racing and Hillclimb champion. Chassis 9308700652 has been rebuilt and restored by DP Racing in 2008/9. This car is complete with lots of history including original Austrian ONS Wagen Pass and confirmation from Willi Rabl on the history of the car.
The car has always been painted in the famous Vaillant colour scheme in deference to Rabl's sponsor for the Austrian and European Mountain races and GT races that he competed in during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Restored by Eckehard Zimmermann's DP Motorsport (the company that developed and built the Kremer aerodynamic bodies and who built the body originally). Rebuilt with new roll cage, new suspension, Upgraded centre-lock wheels and 917 brakes, new fuel cells valid till 2014, rebuilt engine and gearbox with strengthened gears (962 specification) and rebuilt turbocharger. Complete and ready to race (the car was used at the Kremer Racing Days at the Nürburgring in 2009) and with spare short ratio gearbox, and front splitter. (FIA HTP papers applied for).
With great period history including winning the Austrian National Championship four times, winner of the Alpen Donnau Hillclimb Championship, and runner up in the European Hillclimb Championship, as well as competing in many European GT races. An ideal car for historic racing and a previous participant at the Le Mans Classic, Nürburgring Oldtimer GP, Ennstal Classic and more
