EDITORIAL
I just cannot get my mind around the concept of a diesel–powered coupé. I don't know, it just isn't the natural order of things. BMW (and more recently Audi) does very well selling small–capacity, oil–burning two–doors and the Bavarian company also lists the 635d in its catalogue.
But there I go, at the conclusion of the XK Convertible road test, saying that Jaguar's superb, new–generation V6 diesel would suit the stylish £65,000 car. It would, it really would, as the 600Nm of torque available at just 2000rpm would have the XK zinging along in effortless comfort, sipping fuel at a modest rate and denying HM Government existing, and no doubt future, 'gas–guzzling' taxes.
How many times do we actually drive pedal–to–the–metal in these terrific, all–round daily–drivers, bending the tacho needle on its stop? In a Ferrari, Porsche or Aston Martin, maybe, but in general, travelling by road nowadays (in the UK, at any rate) is more a case of enjoying your immediate surroundings and just 'getting on with it'.
The wartime expression 'Keep calm and carry on' springs to mind.

The ultimate expression of arguably the world's first — and definitive — supercar, the SV variant of the iconic Lamborghini Miura appeared at the Geneva Salon in March 1971 and was immediately distinguishable by flared rear arches accommodating wider wheels, a reshaped nose aperture, the disappearance of the earlier 'eyelashes' above the pop–up headlights and a restyled interior with full leather trim and electric windows as standard. Under the skin the chassis was reinforced, the rear suspension redesigned and the engine developed further to give peak power of 385bhp, making the SV the most potent, best handling and most stable of all Miura variants. Further improvements arrived late in 1971 with the separation of engine and gearbox oils (until now shared) by means of a split sump system, and the last 96 or so SVs (from just 150 built) boasted this feature.
This late European specification, split sump SV was ordered new in left–hand drive configuration by Lamborauto of Turin. The car was completed on 12th May 1972, featuring classic Rosso Corsa paintwork, black leather upholstery, steering lock (available only on the last SVs) and French headlights. Air conditioning was ordered and plumbed in but not fitted, presumably as the client had changed his mind.
The car's first owner was a Signor Fruttero in Turin; the following year the SV passed to Signor Toffalori of Como, and after four more years to Signor Bricchi of nearby Varese, still in the Italian lakes area. Not until 2004 did chassis '5020' change hands again, this time to a collector in the Bergamo area who only parted with it after acquiring another very special motor car in 2006. Since then the SV has remained in a small and extremely select private German collection from which Kidston SA now offer it for sale.
Recently checked over mechanically by German specialist Stefan Cuntz at a cost of 80,000 euros, chassis '5020' shows just 25,300km and has never been seriously damaged or fallen into disrepair. Beautifully preserved and still in its striking original Rosso Corsa livery with black leather, we believe this is the best Miura SV available worldwide today.

DB4/315/R, specially prepared for racing by Richard Williams with Lord Downe, was campaigned by Mike Salmon between 1982 and 1985, claiming 13 wins at Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and the other major British circuits. Shipped to the USA, it competed between 1986 and 1987 at Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen and Searing with Peter Livaros behind the wheel. By the early 1990s, DB4/315/R was back in the UK and successfully resumed its competition career in this country.
Fully restored by Richard Williams in 1998 when it was acquired by the present owner, the car has been kept in de-humidified storage until recommissioned by RSW for sale at Aston Martin Works Service in May 2004. Apart from a recent short test run to check that all was in proper working order, the car has not been used on either road or track since restoration.
The car is offered fresh from re-commissioning by R S Williams and ready for its first test run under new ownership.
