EDITORIAL
Well, he's nothing if not controversial. Design guru Chris Hrabalek has the new McLaren road car in his sights and is not impressed. He draws (understandably, perhaps) comparisons with the F1. It's styling we're talking about, remember — not market positioning, price or performance.
I disagree. It looks just as good as the equivalent Ferrari or Lamborghini and — being more a front–engined man — I am rarely 'excited' by dramatic styling on these sorts of cars. By their performance, yes — nothing can touch an F430 and its ilk for devastating point–to–point speed. The Paganis, Spykers, Koenigseggs et al don't do a lot for me in any case.
Race–bred, 'proper' badge, peerless execution and finish: that's what you want. And, over the next few months, as we all get to know the MP4–12C better, I've no doubt the car's character will make itself felt.
Will I still be a McLaren sort of person then? I think so, and stand by my immediate opinion that "this car has personality and spirit".
Classic Driver is a broad church, and we tolerate breakaway sects. What do you think?

Behind the Wheel: 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Competition and 1963 ATS 2500 GT
Few cars demonstrate the variety of early 60s racing technology better than these two headlining entries in RM's forthcoming London auction. We were able to drive both recently, back to back, on British roads.

Targa Florio Historic Rally, 9–10 October 2009
The Targa Florio. Mention that name to any motorsport enthusiast and the reply is likely to be, "Ah, those were the days. It’s a pity there’s nothing like it today..." But the Targa’s Piccolo Madonie circuit is still there, a 44–mile twisting ‘switchback’ ride that waits to test man and machine.

This very rare E–type is one of the seven factory–designated 'ZP537/24' cars that had factory preparation for racing and were then delivered to noted teams of the day. Whilst Jaguar had officially withdrawn from international motor racing, they fully understood the need to maintain a profile in 1961; hence the written instruction from chief designer, Claude Bailly, to the production department to create the seven 'ZP' cars which were mildly modified to incorporate, amongst numerous changes, a competition clutch and a close ratio gear box.
These seven cars were sold to well–known race teams of the day with two going to John Coombs, two to Tommy Sopwith's Equipe Endeavour, two to Peter Berry Racing and the seventh to Sir Gawaine Baillie. This car, chassis number 18, was purchased direct from Lofty England by Equipe Endeavour — run by Mr Tommy Sopwith — and originally carried his cherished registration mark EE 400. At the same time, Mr Sopwith also acquired the sister car, which was registered ECD 400 (that car became the first ever E–type to win a race, driven by Graham Hill in May 1961 at Oulton Park). This car was the 'spare' car to that race effort and used as personal road transport for the team's main driver — Mike Parkes.
There is a letter on file with the history of this car confirming all these details from Mr Sopwith. What is truly remarkable is that this car escaped the fate and possible ruin of so many very early E–types and that she remains today totally original to that specification of May 1961. This is a truly significant E–type. It has featured in articles in several Jaguar enthusiast magazines accrued over the years and is a car that has not been brought to the market during the last decade. This is an outstanding and ultra-rare opportunity to own such a significant part of Jaguar history.

Most mirages dissolve as you approach them; but this one can race away at 220mph. The 720 Mirage Ford GT40 is the result of Roush Technologies quest to produce the ultimate limited–edition version of the Ford GT; which even in its standard format is regarded as 'the best modern Supercar'.
They have increased the power to a whopping 720bhp and 600lb/ft, mainly thanks to a larger Whipple Supercharger. Other enhancements that have been added include; adjustable KW suspension — that mean the car sits 25mm lower, widened track front and rear by 5mm, and AP racing Brakes.
Perhaps the best feature though is the removal of the car's American specification rear bumper; it saves weight, but is also gives the Ford GT a clean, uncluttered look.
Roush Technologies has impeccable credentials for such a project, being responsible for homologation of all the officially imported UK Ford GTs and the only factory appointed Ford GT–approved service centre for the cars in this country
Cars International are delighted to offer for sale this unique and very collectable Ford GT finished in Blood Orange and upholstered in Black Hide, our car has covered fewer than 350 miles. As one of only two cars made, makes this the ultimate GT to own, enjoy and experience the power of a 720BHP car at a very affordable price.
