EDITORIAL
We were an impressive line–up. New BMW M3 (grey), followed by new Porsche 911 GT2 (white) and the metallic green Aston Martin DBS you see in this week's ClassicInside. The colours marque–typical, as were the drivers: 911–boy en–route to the gym, Mr M3 pretty pleased with life. And the DBS? Well, you know us, well–toned and with nothing to prove...
It was one of those occasions on a long journey where a few cars 'get themselves a convoy' and, purely by accident, travel swiftly and safely for mile after mile together. There's the odd acknowledgement: the choreographed indicator–flashing, the strict lane discipline and the speedy disposal of an interloping Citroën Saxo with full–on body kit daring to enter the flow.
Nothing's said – we're all too cool for that (yes, I know that would be a bit difficult at motorway speeds; but you get the drift). The point is that these three cars summarise very different attitudes and wallet–sizes, yet all are supremely 'Classic Driver' machinery, with an invisible 'driving force' connecting all three.
Enough of the philosophising; if you have a holiday this weekend, have a great one, and look out for next week's ClassicInside as it will contain a review of the Villa d'Este Concours.
