Warning! Warning! Supertanker analogy alert! Yes, it's that time again when the motoring press sagely considers the merits of new cars with the preamble of: "Well, now is simply not the time to announce a 1000bhp V16..."

We all know that, and of course the poor old manufacturer (and I'm talking proper companies here, not fantasists working from a shed at the bottom of their garden aiming to out–Enzo an, er, Enzo) will have set all the engineering and marketing processes in place a long time before launch.

So, when Audi announces the V10 version of its astoundingly accomplished R8, you'd better run to the hills rather than listen to the chorus from the "I wouldn't do it that way" brigade.

It will be, no doubt, a fantastic car. As would an R8 with the company's supercharged V6 as fitted to the S4 and S5 Cabrio, thus moving the car a little way down the price scale and gaining a bit in emissions and fuel consumption.

The only problem then would be playing the numbers game, that is: with an R8 V10, a plain R8 AND an R8 V6, the nomenclature could get confusing. I never said life was easy.

Audi R8 V10

When 8 is not enough

Audi is not letting the mild inconvenience of worldwide recession get in the way of its plans. After all, product development timescales are many years, even decades, and there's little point in knee–jerk reactions to (we hope) a temporary downturn in demand. read more...

We are pleased to offer one of the most original and authentic remaining de Tonaso Pantera Group 4 Factory race cars, of which only 14 examples were built.

The car has a successful competition history as well as a continuous ownership history from new. Originally supplied in the same black/red finish as all the factory cars, in 1975 the car underwent a radical colour change in the hand of the driver M.M. Gallo, to the vibrant triple-colour design we see today and earning the nickname 'The Warhol Pantera'.

In addition to its numerous period race success, in recent years the car has made further appearances at historic race meetings in the US as well as at Le Mans Classic in 2006.

Chassis 2342 is the earliest surviving example from a batch of 14 works cars.
